Read on to learn more about cremation costs in Albany and surrounding areas.

Now more than ever, consumers choose cremation over casketed burial for various reasons.

Cost is only one reason but a major contributing factor. We are all now demanding affordability and “best value” in our consumer choices, and death care is no different.

It is not acceptable to be paying more for services and products than we should be.  DFS Memorials understands this and can offer low-cost funeral alternatives to the residents of the Albany area, Schenectady area, Troy area, Saratoga area, Amsterdam area, Glens Falls area, Hudson area, and beyond.

What is a direct cremation?

A direct cremation is an affordable  ‘no fuss’ funeral alternative. The deceased is collected from the place of death and transported into the funeral home’s care.  All paperwork and permits are processed, and then the cremation is conducted. The cremated remains are then returned to the family.

How much does a direct cremation cost in Albany?

The cost of a direct cremation can vary greatly between funeral service providers. Any firm or director can charge what they wish for their professional services. Hence, it is generally wise to shop and compare. The highest price you can pay in the Albany area can be upwards of $3,000, with an average of about $2,000.

At DFS, we did price survey research to locate an affordable cremation provider. In partnership with an independent funeral director in Albany, we bring you a low-cost direct cremation service for just $895*.

Are there additional fees to the direct cremation service package?

Yes, third-party fees are charged on top of the $895, as these are fees paid directly to the county.

  • Death Certificates are charged at $10.00 each throughout Upstate NY.
  • In the City of Albany, NY, death certificates are $15.00 each.
  • Honorably Discharged Veterans qualify for 1 free copy.
  • Third-Party Crematory Fees (generally $355-$370)

In New York, a funeral firm/director cannot own and operate a crematory.

Therefore, the crematory fee is an additional fee charged by all funeral homes and directors.

There may also be a small fee for a cremation permit.

I have been researching and writing about the death care industry for the past fifteen years. End-of-life services and experiences are topics most people avoid thinking about until they must face them. My work provides comprehensive and independent resources for families, explaining the workings of the funeral industry, the laws governing funeral practices, and the death care trends that impact consumers. With a BA in Cultural Studies, I bring a unique perspective to analyzing cultural death care rituals, complemented by a career background in Business Management. The death care industry is undergoing significant changes, which I find fascinating. The shift towards cremation services and the emergence of sustainable alternatives like aquamation and human composting are of particular interest. I am also intrigued by how technology is reshaping the funeral planning process and experience. I write for US Funerals Online and DFS Memorials LLC, and contribute to various forums and publications within the death care industry.
