Guide to Cremation costs in Orlando, FL

Affordable Cremation Services

We have put together this short cremation information guide to help families understand cremation costs in Orlando.  Cremation is the preferred disposition choice of families in Florida, and fortunately, this has made the cremation market quite competitive.

What is the average cost of a cremation in Orlando?

This is a question that many funeral consumers are asking today.  We have all become more discerning consumers, and today, we approach the purchase of a funeral as no different from any large purchase.

We expect to be able to check and compare prices and find a ‘best value’ funeral service.

The average cost of a cremation in Orlando is in the region of $1,800 if you take into account the full-service funeral homes.  However, many funeral homes and direct disposers offer low-cost cremation services, and it is possible to arrange a direct cremation in Orlando for $1,095.

How do I choose a Cremation Package?

When comparing cremation costs and services, you must compare like-for-like services.  Some funeral homes will package services to simplify families’ selection process.  However, not all funeral homes include the same services/products in a funeral package, so be careful to check this.

Direct cremation in Orlando

A direct cremation proves the cheapest way to conduct a cremation disposition.  It is otherwise known as an immediate cremation or sometimes referred to as a basic or simple cremation.  It just means that the funeral home handles the cremation without providing any ceremony or other services.

The deceased is collected and sheltered for the mandatory waiting period while the cremation documentation is processed and conducted using a simple cremation container.

Afterward, the cremated remains are returned to the family in a temporary cremation urn.

Direct cremation presents a simple, no-fuss means to conduct a cremation at the time of death, allowing the family to gather at a later date/time to conduct their own memorial services.  It is popular in Florida, where many retirees and snowbirds may wish to have their remains shipped back to family in their home state.  It also facilitates a low-cost funeral alternative for families who cannot afford an elaborate funeral and need to keep funeral costs as low as possible.

A direct cremation is a no less dignified alternative to a traditional funeral.

The DFS Memorials provider, Mortuary Services of Florida, is a licensed Direct Disposer Establishment as licensed by the Florida State Board F438949.  Licensed to conduct direct cremations only.

This Guide to Cremation: What happens from when the deceased is collected to the family receiving the cremated remains will answer any questions you have about arranging a cremation and the whole process.

How do I choose a cremation provider in Orlando?

Choosing a cremation services provider can be difficult, especially if the family has not had any chance to preplan a cremation option.  If you are looking for a cremation service on the news of the loss of a loved one, this decision can be even harder when you are grieving and have to make a timely decision.

It can help you to select which funeral home to choose if you outline some criteria about the type of cremation service you require.  Do be aware of the distinction between selecting a funeral home or a direct disposer.  A direct disposer will generally not have a funeral home establishment and cannot offer such services as viewing visitation or funeral services.

It can help to contact more than one funeral home to inquire and check cremation prices and services.  This will help to give you a better idea of how providers compare and give you a feel for what kind of service level you can expect.

How can you save money by arranging a cremation?

A cremation WILL save you money!  Generally, a cremation costs at least half the cost of a traditional burial service.  There is no need for a casket, embalming, a burial vault, or a full-size cemetery plot.  A cremation with a full service can usually be conducted for between $3,000 – $5,000, depending upon casket choices and other ancillary services.

However, as outlined above, you can arrange a simple cremation for under $1,100.  Other ways you can save money are to conduct your own memorial service and/or make your own memorial tributes.

Is there any help with cremation costs in Orlando?

Sadly, we are asked this question so often today!  There is limited financial aid to help families with funeral costs.  All states/counties have different rules and budgets for the public aid level (if any).

If you are struggling financially and are worried about how you can pay for a funeral, you may want to consult your county social services or human services.   The state is responsible for dealing with indigent burials, but this is generally just for those individuals who become the responsibility of the state.

Social Security will pay a lump sum death benefit of $255 to those who qualify, and veterans are entitled to certain benefits.  Union, church, and charity organizations may assist a family with fundraising to pay for funeral expenses.  If finances are a concern – the most important thing is to try and keep your funeral costs down as much as possible.
