A Direct Cremation – the simple, alternative disposition alternative in LA!
A direct cremation is simply a cremation without any ceremony or funeral services provided by the funeral home or cremation company. The deceased is collected from the place of death, transferred into the care of the funeral home (or crematory), all the paperwork is completed and then the deceased is cremated. The cremated remains are returned directly to the family.
A simple reinforced cardboard container is used instead of a casket, and the cremation ashes are returned in a basic temporary cremation box. The family can choose to select a cremation urn if desired, for an additional cost, and the cremated remains returned in their chosen urn.
Additional costs that may be incurred are fees from the county. This will be costs for the death certificate/s and cremation permit (if a fee applies). If the deceased passed away at a residential address and the collection requires a 2-person team, there may be an additional fee.
Other potential additional costs can be is the deceased was over 300 pounds as an overweight cremation has extra cost factors. And, if there is any reason the cremation can not go ahead as scheduled, and the deceased has to be in refrigerated storage for an extended period.
If the deceased is at the Medical Examiners office, we can make collection once the body is released by the Coroner. The family needs to sign a form to authorize us to pick up the deceased and transfer them from the morgue for cremation. The Coroner will usually issue the permit to cremated as the body is released to the funeral director.
